David J. Rothman, PhD

David J. Rothman holds degrees from Harvard, The University of Utah, and New York University.  He has taught at the University of Utah, New York University, and Western State College of Colorado, along with many secondary schools.  He currently teaches writing at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Rothman co-founded and served as first Executive Director of the Crested Butte Music Festival, and is the founding editor/publisher of Conundrum Press, a small press dedicated to poets and writers of the American west.  He has also been the Executive Director of the Robinson Jeffers Association and was the Headmaster of Crested Butte Academy from 1998 to 2004.  He sits on the boards of the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics and the Ijamjazz Foundation, and is incoming President of the Robinson Jeffers Association.

Rothman’s poems have appeared in Poetry, The Atlantic, The Hudson Review, The Kenyon Review, Appalachia, The Gettysburg Review, and scores of other journals.  His second book of poems, The Elephant’s Chiropractor, was runner-up for the 1999 Colorado Book Award.  His essays on subjects from modern poetry to Restoration satire, to film theory, to ski mountaineering appear widely.
