Writing a Shadowbox

Description:
Using the 3-D assemblage of Joseph Cornell as a guide, we’ll explore various techniques of creating a literary collage. With step-by-step discussion and practice of such elements as symbol, association, juxtaposition, negative space and framing, we’ll write our own shadowboxes from individual vignettes, stories, essays, poems and fragments. Bring something to write with, and at least five unrelated objects, memories, photographs, found text, or other prompts that hold some meaning for you. Readings and visual examples provided in class. Inner child welcome. Goodie bags offered at the door.
Please note: This class meets on two consecutive Saturdays and Sundays--June 7 & 8, and June 14 & 15, from 9:00 AM to Noon.
